Local History and Special Collection
Local Authors There are a variety of materials in the special collections room of the library. The North Carolina collection contains fiction by North Carolina authors as well as non-fiction about our state. We also have a selection of Polk County, North Carolina, and United States government documents. The genealogy section has circulating and reference materials pertaining to our area and genealogy in general. Materials include census information, marriage listings and family histories. We also have information about other genealogy collections in other libraries that contain Polk County family history. We have a microfilm collection with a special microfilm reader with its own printer and the capacity to e-mail files. The local history collection has several books of interest on Polk County. Most of these materials circulate. The senior resource collection has catalogs on assistive devices and materials in alternative formats. We also have assistive devices such as magnification lamps, adaptive alarm clocks, etc. that may be borrowed. Senior citizen-related magazines and newspapers are also here. We keep back copies of the Tryon Daily Bulletin here. The oldest editions are on microfilm. We also have early 20th century Polk County News on microfilm. If you need to access these, please ask for assistance. We have a few rare book collections. These do not circulate, but you may read them in the library. We also have recorded interviews as a part of the Veterans History Project. you may watch them, or if you are a veteran, you may arrange to be interviewed.
