Polk County North Carolina Public Library
Polk County Public Library is for History
How You Can Participate
People of all ages in Polk County are encouraged to participate either as a "storyteller" or as an interviewer ...

Thanks to a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation, we are now equipped to record veteran's interviews in the library.

The library is a partner in the Library of Congress Veteran's History Project. Our goal is to record a minimum of twenty veteran's stories a year. These will be house in our special collections department and information about each participant will be placed in the Library of Congress Veteran's History Project database.

Tell your story -

  • Make an appointment through the library to be interviewed
    • The Polk County Community Foundation has provided us recording equipment for use in this project through a grant. We now have everything you need to record and view your interview. We can set this equipment up in the library for your use.
  • Request a Project Kit from the Veteran's History Project website
  • View the Memoir Kit from the VHP giving you tips on writing your memories
  • Send your story online directly to the VHP

Share your photographs and letters -

  • Make an appointment to have your items scanned

Volunteer to interview a vet -
